It constitutes a food present in the table of many families in America at lunchtime. The soup and dry consists of a plate of soup, usually of rib or bone, with plantain and yuca, give another dish of white rice.

Sopa y seco (soup and dry) means (to eat) a full meal, normally poor families eat one of the two, either only soup or only dry, dry meaning rice or pasta or any other food that day, when someone say "Voy a comer sopa y seco" or "Dame sopa y seco" means soup, normally accompanied by rice, any kind of protein, and salad. This meaning may or may not include juice. But can also mean, any kind of broth (beans, meat, chicken, "ajiaco", "mote de queso") and any kind of dry food, (rice, pasta, fried fish, yucca, salad, plantain)
